John Locke   He was an English philosopher who believed all people have natural rights in life. These rights were life, liberty and property.He wrote that government is a contract between the people and the ruler.

Baron de Montesquieu   He was a French writer who believed that the powers of government should be separated and balanced against each other and defined and limited. This separation would make sure that no one group or person would have too much power.

Federalists   They were supporters of the Constitution. George Washington, Benjamin Franklin were Federalists. Madison, Hamilton, and Jay wrote the Federalists papers in support of the Constitution.

Antifederalists   They were people who opposed the Constitution. Patrick Henry opposed the Constitution. Antifederalists opposed it - 1) the strong government would take away liberties 2) ignore states & people 3) favor the wealthy 4) dominated by educated people

Article I   It established the legislative branch. This branch: 1)makes laws 2) collects taxes 3) coins money 4) regulates trade 5) declares war 6) raises and supports an army. It consists of the House of Representatives proportional rep. & Senate 2 votes per state

Article II   It establishes the executive branch.It is headed by the president. He's to carry out the laws, establish relations with foreign countries, and is Commander in chief of the armed forces. Pres. & vice pres. are elected to a 4 year term by Electoral College.

Article III   It establishes the judicial branch.or court system. Supreme Court hears cases involving the Constitution, laws passed by Congress, and disputes between states.
