Last Known Good Configuration   Windows Registry key for the most recent successful Login.

NTLDR   Program responsible for starting Windows. Also called the Boot Loader.

OS Boot Record   First sector of the system partition.

Post (Power On Self Test)   A series of tests used to find out if startup BIOS can communicate correctly with essential hardware components for a successful boot.

Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE)   a lean operating system that can be launched to solve Windows startup problems after other tools available on the advanced option menu have failed.
