Cold War   This began n 1945 after WWII. It was a global conflict between democracy and communism.

Truman Doctrine   Truman wanted to prevent the spread of communism. He wanted it "Contained". Against communism.

Berlin Blockade   During the multinational occupation of post- WWII, Germany, the soviet union blocked the western allies railway.

Berlin Wall   Wall erected between 1961-1989 by the communist regime in East Germany in an effort to prevent migration from East to west Germany.

McCarthyism   This was the communist witch hunts of the 1950's.

Taft-Harley Act   This made unions liable for damages that resulted from jurisdictional disputes among themselves, and required union leaders to take a non-communist bath.

Douglas MacArthur   He was the supreme allied commander during the Cold War. After WWII, He was put in charge of putting Japan back together.

GI Bill of Rights   Was a law that provided a range of benefits for returning WWII veterans.

Interstate highway System   This system is part of the federal Aid primary system it is a system of freeways.

Rosa Parks   She is known as the "Mother of the Civil right movement." She refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white rider.

Martin Luther King Jr.   A leader in the Civil Rights movement in the 1950's and 1960's. Preached non-violent forms of revolting such as sit-ins and friendly protests.

Domino Theory   This speculated that if one state in a region came under the influence of communism, then the surrounding countries would follow in a domino effect.

Nikita Khrushchev   The premier of Russia during the race to get satellites into space between Russia and the United States.

Fidel Castro   He engineered a revolution in Cuba, in 1959. He took valuable American property.

Military-Industrial Complex   During the Cold War military funding increased tremendously.

Bay Of Pigs invasion   Kennedy was told that there were enough people in Cuba that would support an uprising.

EEOC   Equal Employment opportunity Commission- A federal law enforcement agency that enforces laws against work place discrimination.

HUD   Department of Housing and Urban development- U.S federal agency that deals with subsidized housing community planning and development of cities.

Great Society   The great society was President Johnsons policy it was a continuation of the democratic Ideals.

Malcolm X   A black Muslim preacher who favored black separation and condemned the "blue-eyed white devils."

New Left   Radical political movement which was active in the U.S. during the mid 1960's to late 1970's.

Ho Chi Minh   The Vietnamese leader who believed in Asian nationalism. He was trying to get rid of the French colonial rule in Vietnam.
