Organizing for the War.   When World War 2 started like the Spanish-American War, and World War 1, the U.S. was unprepared so; we had to find a way to build up our military, get people to support the war, and eventually find a way to defeat the Axis Powers. Many women took part.
🗑
W.A.C.   This stood for Women's Army Corps. Women served as nurses, flight instructors teaching men how to fly, and as transport pilots, taking supplies from base to base.
🗑
Supporting the War Effort   Since, there was such a high demand for wartime supplies, unemployment drastically fell which ended the Great Depression. Women began working in factories, gardens were grown for food, people bought bonds, and people rationed.
🗑
Rationing   This is the act of setting limits on how much of a particular item you can buy. For instance, coffee, sugar, meat, shoes, gasoline, tires, ans steel were limited in how much you could buy.
🗑
Women in Factories   Women began to make most of the supplies needed to win the war. This is the first time that women went to work full time. In fact, women became police officers, bus drivers, and did many jobs. "Rosie the Riveter" was a symbol for women to work.
🗑
Japanese-Americans   After Pearl Harbor, Japanese were put into jail or camps. They lost everything because people thought that they were spies from Japan. Even when they got out of jail, the little money they got wasn't even enough to renew.
🗑
Zoot Suit Riot   Mexican-Americans faced discrimination and started the "Zoot Suit Riot"
🗑
American After World War 2   Men and women fought for jobs that they had.
🗑
G.I. Bill   In 1944 this was made to give money to veterans new lives when they got home from war.
🗑
Inflation   This is when there was a need for items but there wasn't enough so prices increased.
🗑
Dwight D.Eisenhower   He was president and he gave out more social security and he started the interstate act of 1956.
🗑
Standard of living   This was how comfy people were. Many were in great situations.
🗑
Baby Boom   Lots of people had babies and as a result, new technology and medicine.
🗑
Growth of Suburbs   This was made for businesses to be outside of the city. Most people lived in the city though.
🗑
Cities Problems   People were leaving the city and the taxes stopped coming which made them higher and people were too poor to move.
