Color Terms

| How do you percieve white? | Reflects light back into eyes |
| How do you percieve black? | Light is absorbed |
| What is hue? | Hue refers to the color itself. Each different hue is a different wavelength of light |
| What are the primary colors? | red, blue, yellow |
| What are the secondary colors? | violet, green, orange |
| What are the tertiary colors? | red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green, yellow-orange, red-orange |
| What is a saturated color? | colors that have no black or white in them |
| What three groups make up the color wheel? | primary, secondary, and tertiary |
| What is a tint? | A saturated color that is mixed with a pure white color |
| What is a shade? | A saturated color that is mixed with a pure black color |
| What are three colors that are considered to be warm colors? | red, orange, and yellow |
| What are three colors that are considered to be cool colors? | blue, green, and violet |
| What are the five neutral colors? | black, grey, white, brown, and tan |
| What are the six types of color harmonies? | Monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, split complementary, & nuetral. |
| What is a monochromatic color harmony? | achieved by only using tints and shades of only one color |
| What is an analougus color harmony? | Done by using three or more colors that are next to each other on the color wheel |
| What is a complementary color harmony? | two colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel |
| What is a triadic color harmony? | three colors that are located equal distance of each other |
| What is a split complementary scheme? | created by using any color and the two colors located next to that color's compliment |
| What is a neutral color scheme? | any combination of whites, blacks, greys, browns, and tans |
