Color Terms

How do you percieve white? Reflects light back into eyes
How do you percieve black? Light is absorbed
What is hue? Hue refers to the color itself. Each different hue is a different wavelength of light
What are the primary colors? red, blue, yellow
What are the secondary colors? violet, green, orange
What are the tertiary colors? red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green, yellow-orange, red-orange
What is a saturated color? colors that have no black or white in them
What three groups make up the color wheel? primary, secondary, and tertiary
What is a tint? A saturated color that is mixed with a pure white color
What is a shade? A saturated color that is mixed with a pure black color
What are three colors that are considered to be warm colors? red, orange, and yellow
What are three colors that are considered to be cool colors? blue, green, and violet
What are the five neutral colors? black, grey, white, brown, and tan
What are the six types of color harmonies? Monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, split complementary, & nuetral.
What is a monochromatic color harmony? achieved by only using tints and shades of only one color
What is an analougus color harmony? Done by using three or more colors that are next to each other on the color wheel
What is a complementary color harmony? two colors that are directly across from each other on the color wheel
What is a triadic color harmony? three colors that are located equal distance of each other
What is a split complementary scheme? created by using any color and the two colors located next to that color's compliment
What is a neutral color scheme? any combination of whites, blacks, greys, browns, and tans
