Color Terms
Question | Answer |

How do you perceive white? | White light occurs when all the wavelengths are reflected back to your eye. |
How do you perceive black? | Black light occurs when no light is reflected to your eye. |
What is hue? | Hue refers to the color itself. |
What are the primary colors? | Red, blue, & yellow. |
What are the secondary colors? | Orange, green, & violet. |
What are the tertiary colors? | Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, & red-violet. |
What is a saturated color? | The colors in the color wheel. There is no white or black in them. |
What three groups make up the color wheel? | Primary, secondary, & tertiary. |
What is a tint? | A saturated color mixed with pure white. |
What is a shade? | A saturated color mixed with pure black. |
What are three colors that are considered to be warm colors? | Red, orange, & yellow. |
What are three colors that are considered to be cool colors? | Blue, green, &, violet. |
What are the five neutral colors? | Black, gray, white, brow, & tan. |
What are the six types of color harmonies? | Monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic, split complementary, & neutral. |
What is a monochromatic color harmony? | Tints & shades of only one color. |
What is an analogous color harmony? | 3 or more colors next to each other on the color wheel. |
What is a complementary color harmony? | Two colors directly across from each other on the color wheel. |
What is a triadic color harmony? | 3 colors equidistant form each other on the color wheel. |
What is a split complementary scheme? | Using a color and the 2 directly on either side of its complement. |
What is a neutral color scheme? | Any combination of neutrals. |
