| Bit | Smallest unit of binary information. 8 equal a byte. |
| Byte | Represents 1 alphabetic or numeric character of information. |
| Control Unit | Retrieves the instructions and sends command signals to the rest of the computer system to tell them what to do. |
| Arithmetic Logic Unit | Performs the mathematical calculations that are required in many data processing programs. |
| Memory Unit | Allows storage of information. 2 Parts Random Access & Ready Only. |
| Random Access Memory | Temporary memory that is designed to hold new data and is available while the compute is turned on. |
| Read Only Memory | Permanent internal memory inside the system, inaccessible to the user, and is used to store instructions that are installed or programmed at the manufacturer. |
| Megahertz | One million cycles per second. |
| Gigahertz | One Billion cycles per second. |
| Cache | Provides a temporary storage area that provides quick access to information. |
