Central Processing Unit (UPU) where the processing of the information takes place
Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU) the sector of the CPU that performs the mathematical calculations that are required in many data processing programs
Memory Unit allows storage of information, is internal to the computer, and is divided into two types of memory
Bit a binary character; the smallest unit of binary information
Byte eight bits make one byte; it can represent one alphabetic or one numeric character of information
Processor Speed expressed in megahertz, which equals one million cycles per second or gigahertz, which equals one billion cycles per second
Cache provides a temporary storage area that provides a quick access to information
Peripheral Devices inputs information, outputs information into a form that is easily read by the user, and stores the information for later use
Keyboard offers the input of alphabetic and numeric information, as well as additional operational and input keys
Mouse Pad allows good movement of the mouse, and comes in many trendy designs
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software that converts texts
Graphics Table also connected to the computer through a port connection; teacher or student draws on the electronic tablet with a stylus to transfer the image to the computer
Digital Cameras cameras that are capable of inputting data into a computer instead of onto film, and are common tools in teaching and learning across grade levels
Web Cam a tiny camera that sits on (or is part of) a computer and feeds video directly into the computer
Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) small, portable tools allow the user to input handwritten notes on a small screen using a special pen or a tiny keyboard.These notes can be downloaded into a computer for later use
