Spacing Rules

QuestionAnswer
Period. 2 after when used at the end of a sentence. 1 after when used after an initial or abbreviation Ex:I'm fine. Good and Mrs. K. Huddleston.
Comma, 1 after used in a sentence. 0 after an internal period in an abbreviation. Ex: Lions, tigers, and bears! and 10,000,000
Semicolon; 1 after used in a sentence Ex: Yes; however, you see
Colon: 2 after used in a sentence 0 after when used to express time. Ex: Items: pens, pencils, paper and 12:34
Hypen- 0 before and after when used in a sentence Ex: Mother-in-law
Slash/ 0 before and after when used in a sentence Ex: Dated 9/29/08
Apostrophe' 0 after when used in a contraction Ex: Won't, can't, don't
Quotation Mark "" 0 before and after the letters they surround Ex: I said, "Wait"
Parenthesis () 0 before and after the letters they surround Ex: (Don't stop there)
Asterik* 0 before and after the letters they surround Ex: *Note this*
At @ 1 before and after when used in a sentence Ex: 10@ $1.00 each
