Stack Ch13-1 Administrator - Guest

What is an Administrator? In Windows 2000/XP/Vista, an account that grants to the administrator(s) rights and permissions to all hardware and software resources, such as the right to add, delete, and change accounts and to change hardware configurations.
What does a Backup Operator do? A Windows user account that can back up and restore any files on the system regardless of its having access to these files.
What kind of text file is a Batch File? A text file containing a series of OS commands. Autoexec.bat is a batch file.
What are Built-in user accounts? This consists of a Admin account and a guest account.
Whats a chain? A group of clusters used to hold a single file.
What is Compression? Software that works under Windows 2000/XP at the file, folder, or volume level by rewriting data files in a mathematically format that uses less space.
What are cross-linked clusters? Errors caused when more then one file points to a cluster, and the files appear to share the same disk space, according to the file allocation table.
What does it mean to defragment? To rewrite a file to a disk in one contiguous chain of clusters, thus speeding up data retrieval.
What kind of limit does a disk quotas have? A limit placed on the amount of disk space that is available to users. Requires a Windows NTFS volume.
Who is intended to use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard? It is intended to be used by a user rather an administrator.
What is a forgotten password floppy disk used for? A windows XP disk created to be used in the event the user forgets the user account password to the system.
What is Fragmentation? The distribution of data files on a hard drive or floppy disk such that they are stored in noncontiguous clusters.
What is a fragmented file? A file that has been written to different portions of the disk so that it is not in contiguous clusters.
Whats another name for a Global user account and what does it do? Sometimes called a domain user account, the account is used at the domain level, created by an administrator, and stored in the SAM (security accounts manager) database on a Windows domain controller.
What does Group Policy do? It makes entry's, registry, and login in process as well as security settings.
What is a group profile? A group of user profiles. All profiles in the group can be changed by the group profile.
What a Guest account? A user account that has limited permissions on a system and cannot make changes to it. Guest user accounts are intended for onetime or infrequent users of a workstation.
