The author wants you to enjoy his/her writing. Entertain
The author wants to give you specific information. Inform
The author wants to change your mind or get you to do something. Persuade
When an author writes a poem, the purpose is to Entertain
When an author writes historical fiction, the purpose is to Entertain
A magazine advertisement for selling Van's shoes is to Persuade
A student is running for the school president and is giving a speech to Persuade
A newscaster on Channel 10 is telling you the news of the day to Inform
The author of a biography of someone's life is wanting to Inform
A recipe on how to make chocolate turtle brownies is to Inform
You write a letter to your parents to try to get them to buy you a pet. Persuade
Someone writes a letter to the editor of the newspaper to express their displeasure about a law and why it should change. Persuade
