Juxtaposition | an act or instance of placing close together or side by side, especially for comparison or contrast. |

Hyperbole | an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally |
Farce | a ludicrous situation or action |
Elegy | a mournful or plaintive poem or song |
Lyric | characterized by or expressing spontaneous, direct feeling |
Imagery | figurative description |
Foil | to baffle or frustrate |
Foreshadowing | the organization and presentation of events and scenes in a work of fiction so that the reader is prepared to some degree for what occurs later in the work. |
Situational Irony | irony involving a situation in which actions have an effect that is opposite from what was intended, so that the outcome is contrary to what was expected |
Dramatic Irony | irony that is inherent in speeches or a situation of a drama and is understood by the audience but not grasped by the characters in the play |
Verbal Irony | irony in which a person says or writes one thing and means another, or uses words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of the literal meaning |
