Hardware Basics 0622

QuestionAnswer
Cache A temporary storage area that provides quick access to information.
Input devices These allow the input of data into the computer.
Mouse pad Allows good movement of the mouse-and comes in many trendy designs.
RAM Temporary memory that is designed to hold new data and is available only while the computer is turned on.
Digital Cameras Cameras that are capable of inputting data into a computer instead of onto film.
Computer monitors Display information on the screen, where it can be edited and sent to the printer.
Pixel A single colored square on the screen.
Storage Devices Allow storage of data for later use.
CD-R Allows the user to record data once for storage purposes; after information is recorded it cannot be edited.
Assistive Technology Includes devices for special needs students, such as readers, special keyboards, and so on.
Braille translator A software product that converts text, either obtained by scannig or produced by a word processor, into Braille.
Bit The smallest unit of binary information.
Byte 8 bits; the binary code for one character of data.
Scanner An input device that is connected to the computer through a port connection, and that allows the conversion of a printed page of text or graphics to digital format.
Output devices Produce the data after it has been processed in hard copy or soft copy.
