Abnormal Respiration

Some abnomal respiration patterns

QuestionAnswer
Apnea Periods of non-breathing
Hyperapnea abnormal increases in depth and rate of respiratory movements
Hyperventilation prolonged hyperapnea, resulting in increase carbon dioxide in blood levels
Biot's respiration Irregular breathing pattern, with deep and shallow breaths occuring randomly
Cheyenne Stokes Respiration periods of hyperapnea regularly alternating with periods of apnea, characterized by regular acceleration and deceleration in depth.
Cluster Breathing breaths follow each other is disorderly sequence, with irregular pauses between them.
