| Computer | A machine that can be programed invented in the 1940's. |
| Personal Computer | A PC includes a keyboard, mouse, monitor. |
| Hardware | The computer and all attached equipment. Example: CD drive, hard drive, speakers, mouse, monitor, keyboard. |
| Software | A set of instructions for the computer that has the ability to change or create data. Examples: Typing Instructor, Powerpoint, Publisher, Word, Games, Excel, OS (Operating system)(OS runs the entire computer) |
| Monitor | A diplay screen. |
| Mouse | An input device. It moves the cursor on the monitor. |
| Keyboard | the keyboared is a set of keys or buttons that are used to input information and instructions to a computer. |
| Hard Drive | The hard drive is the primary storage unit of the computer. It is where the operating systems, applications, files and data are stored on a magnetic cylinder. |
| CDROM | [Compact Disk - Read Only Memory]A CD-ROM is a compact disk used to store data. A CD-ROM cand hold up to 650 megabytes of data. |
| CDROM Drive | The small box with motor and other parts that let th computer read the CD-ROM. It uses a laser to read the CD. It looks for pits and flats. |

| Modem | Connects computers to each other. |
| Port | Hardware plugs into it; like keyboard, and/or mouse. |
| Video card | Allows graphics to be displayed on the monitor. |
