Computer A computer is a machine that can be programmed. Invented in the 1940's.
Personal Computer a pc that includes a keyboard,mouse, monitor
Hardware The Computer and all attached equipment are called hardware.
Software Software is a set of instructions for the computer that has the ability to change or create data
Monitor a display screen
Mouse An Input Devive. It moves the cursor on the monitor.
Keyboard THe KEyboard is a set of keys or buttons that are used to input information and instructions to a computer
Hard Drive The Hard Dive is the Primary Stoarge Unit of the computer. Its stored on a magnetic cylinder.
CDROM (Compact Disc) (Read Only Memory)
CDROM Drive The Small Box with motor and other parts that let the computer read what is pn a CD_ROM. Itr uses a laser to read the CD. IT look for Pits and Flats.
Data Data is pieces of information and computer uses software to change data.
Program another word for software. IT is a list of instruictions.
Operating System OS Tells Programs what to do
BIOS BIOS wakes up the computer
Motherboard Motherboard holds it all together
CPU Centeral Processing UNit serving as the brain of the comouter. A CPU gets very hot.
ROM RAM ROM- Read only MEmory RAM- Random Acess Memory
Power Supply Gets Electricity into the Computer.
Modem connects computers to each other
POrt hardware plugs into it; like keyboard, mouse
Video Card allows graphics to be displayed on the monitor
Power Plug Used to provide power in to the computer and provide power out the monitor
Parallel Port A Parralel port is an electrical connector that is used to send information on wires at the same time to a printer
Serial Port Used to connect older or specialized devices
Network Interface Card (nic) An Ethernet Cable Connection
Universal Series Bus (USB) USB is qan external bus that transfers Mbps.
