keyboard the keybaord is a set of keys or buttons that are used to input information and instructions to a computer
hard drive The hard drive is the primary storage unit of the computer. It is where the operation system, applications, files and data are stored on a magnetic cylinder.
CDROM (Compact Disc Read Only Memory)A CD-ROM is a compact disc used to store data. A CD-ROM can hold up to 650 megabytes of data.
CDROM drive The small box with motor and other parts that let the computer read what is on a CD-ROM. It uses a laser to read the CD. It looks for pits and flats.
data Data is numbers,letters, pictures, drawings, sounds, orders, payments, stories and other pieces of information. The computer uses software to change data.
program Another word for program. It is a list of instructions. It gives the user the ability to create, modify, and save files.
Operating System tells the program what to do
BIOS wakes up the computer
Motherboard holds all the circuitboards
CPU Central Processing Unit serving as the brain of the computer
ROM Read Only Memery
RAM Random Access Memory
power supply gets electricty into the computer
Modem connect computers to each other

Power Plug used to provide power in to the computer and provide power out to the monitor
Parallel Port(Printer Connector) a parallel port is an electical connecter that is used to send information on wires at the same time to a printer
Serial Port used to connect older or specialized devices sends parts of a message Example: include bar code scanner
Network Interface Card(NIC) an ethernet cable connection
Universal Serial Bus(USB) universal serial bus is an external bus that transfers Mbps
