Computer A machine that can be programed. Invented in the 1940's
Personal Computer A personal comper or a PC, is a another name for a computer. Includes: keyboard, mouse
Hardware The computer and all attached are called hardware. EX: CD Drive, Speakers, Mouse
Software Software is a set of instructions for the Computer that has the ability to change or create data. EX: Word, Excel, Games
Monitor A display screen.
Mouse An input devise. It moves the curser on the monitor.
Keyboard The keyboard is a set of keys or buttons that are used to input info. and instructions to a computer
Hard Drive The hard drive is the primarly sorage unit and a magnetic cylinder.
CDROM CD=compact disc and read only memory
CDROM Drive Small box that lets the computer read the CD.
Data Data is pieces of info. that sostware can change. like numbers, letters, pics, drawings ,sound
Program Another word for software. It is list ofinstructions.
Operating System Tells programs what to do.
BIOS Wakes up the computer.
Mother Board Holds it all together.
CPU The central processing unit. Know as the brain of the computer. Gets very hot.
ROM Read only memory. Has good memory
RAM Reads and Writes. Random Access Memory.
Power Supply Gets electricty into the computer.
Modem Connewct computers to each other.
Port Hardware plugs into it; like keyboard,mouse
Video Card Allows graphics to be displayed on the monitor.
Power Plug Used to provide power in to the computer and provide power out to the moitor.
Parallel Port A parallel port is an electrical connector that is used to send information on wires at th same time to a printer.
Network Interface Card An Ethernet cable connection.
Universal Serial Bus Universal Serial Bus or USB is an extrnal bus that transfers Mbps.
Serial Port Used to connect older or specialized devise.
