TermDefinition
Computer A machine that processes data. Developed in the 1940's.
Personal Computer PC- Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor
Hardware All equiptment attached to computer. Example- Hard Drive, Monitor, Mouse
Software Set of instructions for computer that has ability to change or create data. Example- Games, Excel, Word
Monitor A display screen.
Mouse An input device. It moves the curser on the monitor.
Keyboard A set of keys or buttons that are used to put information and instruction to a computer.
Hard Drive The primary storage unit of the computer. It is where the operating system, applications, files and data are kept.
CDROM Compact Disc- Read only memory- holds up to 650 megabytes of data
CDROM Drive drive that holds the CD
Motherboard I hold all of the other circuit boards
Port Hardware is plugged into this
Power Plug puts power into the computer amd provide power out of the monitor
Parallel Port Printer connector amd electrical connector that sends information on wires
Serial Port Used to connect older or specialized devices to your computer
Network Interface Card NIC- an ethernet cable conncection
Universal Serial Bus USB an external bus that transfers Mbps
