SG Computing: Graphics

QuestionAnswer
Graphic A picture or chart (graph) on a computer screen.
Pixel A picture element or tiny dot used to make up a picture on screen.
Tools Different shapes and other things to help you to draw graphics easily.
Tool Attributes Certain properties of tools that you can change the appearance of, e.g. line thickness or colour.
Scale Graphic Changing the size of a graphic.
Rotate Graphic Turning a graphic round by a number of degrees.
Edit Graphic Changing a graphic in some way, e.g. colour, size.
Crop Graphic To reduce a graphic in size by cutting parts of it away.
Zoom When the graphic page is bigger on screen for viewing. It stays the original size for printing.
Toolbar A menu of tools that are available in the package, e.g. circle tool or freehand tool.
Cursor The mouse pointer that you see on screen.
Bit Mapped Graphic A picture made up of tiny dots on the screen called pixels.
Vector Graphic A drawing package graphic made up of different objects on screen, e.g. shapes.
Resolution The quality of the graphic. The smaller the size of the pixels, the finer the lines on screen.
Scan Using an input device to create a digital file of a picture or drawing.
High Resolution Graphics made up from a large number of small pixels.
Low Resolution Graphics made up from a small number of large pixels.
Fill When a full shape has a pattern, gradient or colour inside it. Only possible for 'joined up' shapes.
