plot sequence of events
exposition all background information is given- setting, characters, etc....
narrative hook main problem/ conflict is revealed
rising action all events leading to the climax
climax point of higet interest; the turning point; the protagonist must make a decision
falling action all events leading to the conclusion
conclusion resolution; ending
narrator person telling the story- not necessarily
tone narrator/author attitude towards the story
point of view realationship between the narrator and the reader
1st person narrator is part of the story
3rd limited the narrator tells the story from 1 characters view
3rd omniscient all knowing narrator; not bound by time or place
characters people in the story
major main/most imporant characters
protagonist the character that the story is mostly about; the good guy
antagonist the character who is in opposition to the protagonist; the bad guy
minor supporting characters
dynamic character a character who changes in a story
static character a character who does not change in the story
indirect characterization personality is revealed by thoughts
direct characterization the narrator tells you about a characters personality
suspense quality in a story that keeps you intersted
symbol something that represnets/ stands for something
irony difference between appearances and reality
foreshadowing hints about what night happen later in a story
