Internet Vocabulary

URL Uniform Resource Locator a unique address of a web page
Netiquette Correct or acceptable way of communicating on the Internet
Blog A web site where a user or group of users have an ongoing discussion
Wiki A web site that allows collaborative editing of its content by its users
Phishing Defrauding a online account user by posing as a legitimate company.
Homepage Main page of a web site often has a table of contents on it
Hyperlink A highlighted word or image within a page that will link to an other location within the document or another web location
Search Engine A program used for the retrieval of data, files or documents in a data base or network especially the Internet
Password A secret word, phrase or string of characters that allows someone access to a computer system
Keyword An informative word used in an informational retrieval system to indicate the content of a document or web site
Menu Bar A horizontal bar located at the top of the screen containing drop down menus
Character A symbol representing a letter or number
Bias Show prejudice for or against someone or something
Website A location connected to the Internet that maintains one or more pages on the World Wide Web
Webpage A document connected to the World Wide Web that is viewable by anyone with an Internet connection and a browser
Comment An expression of an opinion or reaction
Browser A program that enables users to navigate the World Wide Web
