Identify computer, software, network, and Internet basic terms

| operating system | software that directs the computer's operations, managing storage, input/output, and communication resources |

| application software | computer software designed to perform a specific task for the user |
| system software | computer software that controls, monitors, and facilitates the computer systems |
| network | computers linked together that share the same resources |

| intranet | a private, restricted network |
| extranet | a company's intranet that is extended to users outside of the company (example: vendors who would purchase items from a company) |
