Elements of Literature

QuestionAnswer
Setting Where and when the story takes place.
Characters The people, Animals, or other creatures in the story.
Protagonist The main good character in the story.
Antagonist The main bad character in the story.
Plot The action that takes place during the story.
Exposition The background information on the characters and setting explained at the beginning of the story.
Rising Action When the conflict unfolds and becomes more complicated.
Climax When the conflict is resolved.
Falling Action Reveals how the main character resolved the conflict.
Resolution The end of the story. Tells you what happens to the characters.
Conflict The problem faced by the characters.
