MS Word Lesson 5 Vocabulary

| HTML | Hypertext Markup Language. A file format used for storing web pages. |
| Internet | A worldwide network of computers. |
| Internet Service Provider | A company that provides access to the Internet for a fee. |
| MHTML | A format used for storing Web pages as single files so they can be easily transmitted over the Internet. |
| Microsoft Office tags | Codes embedded in a Web page document with a MS Office program. The codes enable you to edit the document with the original program. |
| Web browser | Software designed for locating and viewing information stored on the Internet. Common browsers include Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. |
| Web page | A document stored on the World Wide Web. |
| Web Server | A computer connected to the Internet used to store web page document. |
| World Wide Web | A system for finding information on the Internet through the use of linked documents. |
| Background | The color, pattern, or fill displayed on the page behind data in a document. |
| Fill effect | A texture, shading, picture, or pattern used as a background. |
| Web page title | The text that displays in the title bar when a Web page is viewd in a Web browser. |
| Web site | A set of linked web pages, usually all relating to the same topic. |
| Bookmark | A nonprinting character that you insert and name so that you can quickly find a particular locaiton in a document. |
| Hyperlink | Text or graphics linked to a destination file or location. Click the link to jump to the destination. |
| Hyperlink destination | The location displayed when the hyperlink is clicked. Sometimes called the target. |
| Hyperlink source | The document where the hyperlink is inserted. |
| Attachment | A document attached to an e-mail message and sent in its original file format. |
| A method os sending information from one computer to another across the internet or intranet. | |
| Email Address | The string of characters that identifies the name and location of an email user. |
| Mail service provier | A company that maintains and controls e-mail accounts. |
| Message body | The area of in an e-mail message where the message body is typed. |
| Message header | The area at the top of the message window where you enter information about where the message is going and what it is about. |
