What can be considered a line? Curve, dot leaders, and arrows

Where are shapes often used? In logos but are used in many different ways
What does color evoke? Emotion and action and can attract or detract attention
What is the mixture's of colors? Red, green, and blue light
Printers cannot print with... but use...? Printers cannot print with light but use ink and toner
What is a color wheel? A chart used to show the relationship between colors
What can it be used for? Used to pick colors that will look good together in desktop publishing
What is color matching? A process of matching the printed ink color as closely as possible to the color on the monitor
What are the 6 principals of design? Alignment, balance, contrast, proximity/unity, repetition/consistency, and white space
What is alignment? Visual relationship between all of the elements in a layout, even if the elements are far apart
What is symmetrical balance? Elements of the design are centered or evenly divided both vertically and horizontally
What is asymmetrical balance? Off-center alignment created with an odd or mismatched number of elements.
What is radial balance? The elements radiate from or swirl around in a circular or spiral path
What is contrast? The use of big and small elements, black and white text, squares and circles
What is proximity/unity? Grouping elements to demonstrate their relationship to each other
What is repetition/consistency? Repeats some aspect of the design throughout the entire layout
What is a white space? Negative or space empty of any color
What is the rule of thirds? Using imaginary grids to visually divide the page into thirds vertically and/or horizontally and placing most important elements within those thirds
What is optical center? The spot the eye first sees when it encounters a page
What is z-pattern? The pattern eye follows when scanning a page
