QuestionAnswer
Hyperlink A word, phrase, or image that you can click on to jump to a new document or a new section within the current document.
Link A highlighted and underlined word, whenever clicked it will bring you to a different page or a different part of a page.
Webpage Its what make up the World Wide Web. Also it is a individual HTML document.
website A collection of Web pages.
HTML Stands for "Hyper-Text Markup Language." This is the language that Web pages are written in.
HTTP Stands for "HyperText Transfer Protocol." This is the protocol used to transfer data over the World Wide Web.
HTTPS Stands for "HyperText Transport Protocol Secure." It is the same thing as HTTP, but uses a secure socket layer (SSL) for security purposes.
Serial Port a type of connection on PCs that is used for peripherals such as mice, gaming controllers, modems, and older printers.
Parallel port This interface is found on the back of older PCs and is used for connecting external devices such as printers or a scanners.
USB port Stands for "Universal Serial Bus". It can be used to connect keyboards, mice, game controllers, printers, scanners, digital cameras, and removable media drives, just to name a few.
webmaster A person in charge of maintaining a Web site.This job includes writing HTML for Web pages, organizing the Web site's structure, responding to e-mails about the Web site, and keeping the site up-to-date.
domain name This is the name that identifies an Web site.
domain suffix The last part of a domain name and is often referred to as a "top-level domain" or TLD. Such as .com .net .org .edu .co etc..
Encryption The coding or scrambling of information so that it can only be decoded and read by someone who has the correct decoding key.
login A combination of information that authenticates your identity.
log on It refers to the process of accessing a secure computer system or website.
cookie A small amount of data generated by a website and saved by your web browser.
log off Disconnects you from a computer/server/site so your information is not still there.
ScreenShot A picture taken of your computer's desktop. This may include the desktop background, icons of files and folders, and open windows.
Upload It is sending a file from your computer to another system.
Download This is the process in which data is sent to your computer. Whenever you receive information from the Internet, you are downloading it to your computer.
Auto fill cursor This cursor looks like a thin black cross. You can use this cursor to repeat things or fill in a series (such as dates) by simply clicking and dragging.
Select Mode Cursor This cursor looks like a thick cross. It is white with a thick black outline.
Click and Drag Cursor This cursor looks like a white arrow with a black outline.
Resizing Cursor This cursor looks like a thick black line with two arrows intersecting it. It allows you to resize the little boxes.
