organelles of cell

QuestionAnswer
ribosomes made of rRNA and proteins. Synthesizes proteins
cell wall Support (grow tall) Protection allows H2O, O2, CO2 to diffuse in & out of cell
endoplasmic reticulum (smooth and rough) rough ER have ribosomes on the surface. They aid in the making of proteins. They transport materials with cells and to and from the cells.
golgi apparutus consists of a series of flattened sacs (or cisternae) functions include: synthesis (of substances likes phospholipids), packaging of materials for transport (in vesicles), and production of lysosomes
lysosomes Breaks down larger food molecules into smaller molecules Digests old cell parts
mitochondria Breaks down sugar (glucose) molecules to release energy Site of aerobic cellular respiration
centrioles paired cylindrical structures located near the nucleus separates chromosomes during cell division
cytoskeleton Strengthen cell & maintains the shape Moves organelles within the cell
cytoplasm clear thick gel material inside cell membrane where organelles are located
nucleus holds DNA. Controls cell activities Contains the hereditary material of the cell
cytosol intracellular fluid (or cytoplasmic matrix) is the liquid found inside cells
