General parts of Apple Logic Express
| Term | Function |

| Audio Track | Contains audio saved or recorded as a waveform |
| MIDI Track | Contains MIDI data to be played through an external MIDI device |
| Audio Instrument Track | Contains MIDI data to be played back using an internal instrument (e.g. EXSP24) |
| Audio Bus Track | A virtual track where audio can be sent for effects |
| Arrange Window | Where audio regions can be organized by tracks and time |
| Track Mixer Window | A virtual audio mixer, controlling volume, pan, and effects |
| Matrix Edit Window | A "piano roll" window to edit MIDI notes |
| Quantize | To align MIDI note data to the time grid |
| Automation | To control volume, pan, or effects settings automatically throughout a track |
| Solo | Play back ONLY solo tracks |
| Mute | Silences a particular track |
| Record Enable | To set up an Audio Track to receive data |
| Audio Window | Displays all waveform audio clips for the project |
| Time and Pitch Machine | Function in the waveform editor to adjust clip length and pitch |
| Bounce | To export the project as a single audio file |
| Import | To add an audio source to the project (must be 16 bit, 44.1 kHz) |
| Effect | Audio function which modifies the output |
| Filter | Audio function which blocks or allows only certain frequencies to reach the output |
| Transport Window | Controls the playback of the audio |
| Cycle | To loop playback of a certain portion of audio material |
