Keyboarding Vocabulary 1
| Term | Definition |

| Hardware | The machinery of the computer system. |
| Keyboard | Input device for the computer- the device from which you key letters,numbers and special characters into the computer. |
| Mouse | a hand held device used to move the cursor around the screen. |
| Monitor | the part of the computer that shows information as it is entered (looks like the TV screen). |
| CPU | Central Porcessing Unit the "brain" of the computer |
| Printer | The computer hardware that makes a hard copy (printed word on paper- a document) |
| Software | the programs and the instructions that run the computer |
| Boot | to load all of the instructions into the computer to make it work. |
| Load | To place data from a file to the active memory of the computer |
| Cursor | A small line that appears on the screen where the next key stroke will appear. |
| Command | An order that the computer processes. |
| Word processing | Creating text on the computer. |
| Backspace | A key on the keyboard that moves the cursor back one space and erases the character in the space. |
| Delete | a key that tells the computer to remove the data that we put in. |
| Enter key | A key that sends the cursor to the next line. |
| Store | To hold data for future use. |
| Spacebar | A key that moves the cursor one space to the right. |
