Qi disorders are of four types, stagnation, rebellion, deficiency and sinking. Which of these are treated by formulas in these two categories of "XS?" The two XS are qi stagnation and qi rebellion, and are treated by Regulate Qi and Descend Qi Downward. The other two, deficiency and sinking qi, are conditions of Xu and are treated by formulas that Tonify Qi which we studies in Formulas II.

What are the 3 SBF for Regulating Qi? What are the differences among them? Su Zi Qi Tang Tang, Ding Chuan Tang, Ju Pi Zhu Ru Tang. Ding Chuang Tang is to "Arrest Wheezing" (and Clears Heat). Ju Pi Zhu Ru Tang is for hiccups with HEAT! Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang is actually WARM (!!) and is thus used to "warm and transform Cold-Phlegm."
Ban Xia is WAT. Hou Po is BAW. Sheng Jiang is AW. Zi Su Ye is AW. (FL is SBN.) So what could be contraindication of Ban Xia Hou Po Tang? Any signs of Heat (XS or Xu): red face, red T, yellow tongue coat or yellow secretions, bitter taste
Tongue is pale purple. Pulse is wiry and forceful. Would you use Yue Ju Wan or Ban Xia Hou Po Tang? Yue Ju Wan

Tongue is pale, swollen with TM. THICK, white greasy coat. Pulse is "tight" (wiry if severe pain) and slippery from lots of Phlegm. Patient is suffering from Xiong Bi. What is the formula? Gua Lou Xie Bai Bai Jiu Tang (Tricosanthus Fruit, Chinese Chive and White Wine Decoction)
Tongue is pale purple with thick, white coat. Pulse is wiry and TENSE. Patient is suffering from disharmony between LR and ST with epigastric pain d/t LQS and COLD in the Stomach. Which formula would you use? Lian Fu Wan (Gao Liang Jiang is special kind of ginger to warm Stomach and stop pain; Xiang Fu (the Imperial Herb for PMS pain) regulates qi to stop pain.)
"Direct Rebellious Qi Downard" formula for patient with "upper XS and lower XU?" Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang (Cold Phlegm in LU and KD Xu)
Contraindication for Su Zi Jiang Qi Tang? Do not use if only Deficiency. Do not use if Heat-Phlegm.
Caution/Contraindication for Ding Chuan Tang? Use only in cases of COMBINATION WInd-Cold (Exterior) and Heat-Phlegm (Interior)
Caution/Contraindication for Ju Pi Zhu Ru Tang? Use only for ST qi rebellion d/t Deficiency. Do NOT use for XS (whether Heat or Cold)
