American Bottom The highly fertile but flood-prone Mississippi River floodplain where the village of Valmeyer was situated before its relocation.
Prairie du Rocher The colonial French village in Illinois famously saved from the 1993 floodwaters by the timely, tactical use of dynamite.
Pinhook The Missouri village completely destroyed during the 1993 flood due to the tactical activation of the Bird's Point fuse-plug levee.
Sabkha The flat, hyper-saline desert landform common to the Arabian Peninsula that accumulates evaporite minerals like halite and sylvite.
Dukhan The largest sabkha landform in Qatar, physically separated from the Bay of Zekreet by the Rawdat Jarrah Depression.
Wetland The broad class of saturated aquatic ecosystems protected internationally under the guidelines of the Ramsar Convention.
Great Dismal Swamp The extensive wetland straddling the Virginia-North Carolina border that was historically surveyed by George Washington.
Aswan High Dam The engineering structure whose completion permanently brought an end to the historic annual nutrient-rich flooding of the Nile.
Hapi The ancient Egyptian deity who personified the annual fertile flooding of the Nile River.
Pantanal The world's largest tropical wetland ecosystem, situated primarily within the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
