| Cut scene | a non-interactive, pre-scripted sequence that interrupts gameplay to advance the story, develop characters, or set the mood |
| ESA | the primary U.S. trade association and lobbying organization representing the video game industry |
| ESRB Rating | provides concise, impartial information about the age-appropriateness and content of video games in North America. |
| First person shooter | a subgenre of shooter video games centered on combat, played from the protagonist’s perspective, where the player views the world directly through their character’s eyes. |

| Game screens | represent the visual interface between the player and the game engine, encompassing everything from user interface (UI) elements to the active, rendered gameplay field. |
| Genre | an informal classification used to categorize games based on their core gameplay mechanics and how a player interacts with the game, rather than the setting, story, or visual style. |
| Gone Gold | he master version of a game is finished, verified, and ready for manufacturing or digital distribution |
| Grind | the repetitive, often monotonous, act of performing the same tasks—such as defeating monsters, completing side quests, or gathering resources—to gain experience points (XP), currency, or better equipment |
| Janky | a game that feels unpolished, buggy, or awkward, but is usually still playable |
| Level | a discrete, contained, or semi-contained area of a game world that a player must navigate to achieve a specific goal |
| Loot | virtual items—such as weapons, armor, currency, or cosmetic skins—collected by players as rewards for defeating enemies, completing quests, or opening treasure chests |
| MMO | an online, internet-based game where thousands of players simultaneously inhabit and interact within the same persistent, shared virtual world |
| Pixels | the tiny, colored squares (picture elements) that act as the smallest unit of an image on a screen |

| Quest | a structured task or mission given to a player, usually by a non-player character (NPC), to achieve a specific, rewarding outcome within a game |
| Realm | a distinct, self-contained server, world, or dimension holding its own player community, economy, and character data |
| RPG | a genre where players assume the role of a character in a fictional world, focusing on detailed storytelling, character development, and skill progression. |
| Sprites | a two-dimensional bitmap image or animation integrated into a larger 2D scene, commonly representing characters, items, or enemies that move independently of the background |
| Top -Down | a genre defined by a camera perspective that looks directly down upon the action |
