Question | Answer |
---|---|
What are the elements of design? | Space, Line, Shape, Form, Texture, Color |
What are the principles of design? | Balance, Rhythm, Proportion/ Scale, Emphasis, Unity and Harmony |
What is the principle repetition? | When the design is copied or repeated |
How does texture affect color? | Smooth surfaces reflect more light than rough ones. Rough surfaces absorb more light, making them look less darker and less intense |
What do curved lines suggest? | Adds a soft graceful affect, to many will be busy |
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? | Horizontal leads the eye from left to right, Vertical leads the eye up and radial leads your eye from the center out |
What do diagonal lines suggest? | Action, Movement and excitement |
What is space? | The area provided for a particular purpose |
What are the four types of rhythm? | Gives the design direction and movement |
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? | Parts of the design are not identical but are equal in visual weight |
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? | Horizontal lines lead your eye from left to right, and Vertical lines lead the eye up |
What is the golden mean? | 3 to 5 ratio |
What is the difference between shape and form? | Shape if a flat or silhoutte image and Form is the outlined edges of a three dementional object |
What are the five types of balance? | Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Vertical, Horizontal, and Radial balance |
What does unity or harmony mean? | Unity/ Harmony means all elements and principles of design work together to create harmony |
What are the two things texture involves? | How the surface feels to touch and how it appears to feel |
What are the four types of line? | Veritcal, Horizontal, Diagional, Curved |
What is proportion? | Proportion means that each of the parts are the right size to belong to the whole |
Which of the five types of balance suggests excitement or interest? | Radial Balance |
What is symmetrical balance? Example? | Where both parts are identical ex: butterfly |
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? | When one object or item stands out ex:clock over the fire place |
What happens when you use a continuous line? | Your eye follows it (never ending)makes the room look larger |
What is another name for symmetrical balance? | Formal Balance |
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? | Informal Balance |
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? | Gradation is when the design increses or decreases in size and Radiation is ehrn the line or design moves out from the center point |
