CSIM Lesson 1 Vocab Terms

TermDefinition
Algorithm An ordered set of instructions that are used to carry out a task.
Algorithmic Thinking The process of solving problems using a series of steps.
Anomaly Something unexpected that happens while a program is running.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Antenna An antenna used to create a personal area network that uses low energy to power Bluetooth wireless technology.
Bug A flaw in a computer program that causes the program to produce an incorrect result or behavior.
Code Trace A method to analyze and record information about a program's execution.
Compiler A program that translates instructions or code into a language that can be read and understood by a computer.
Computer Science The science of creating solutions and solving programs using the help of computers. Some of the areas of focus include software engineering, programming, data analysis, algorithms, graphics, and animations.
Computer Scientists Scientists who apply their knowledge of computation to creating solutions for using a computer system.
Conditional Statement A command that performs different actions depending on whether a condition is true or false.
Debug The attempt to find and fix errors in computer hardware or programs.
Emoji A small image used to express an idea or emotion in digital communication.
Execute To carry out or put in effect.
Flowchart A diagram that represents an algorithm, workflow ,or process, and uses geometric symbols connected by arrows to show direction of the flow or the action
Input Something put into a system, such as resources, information, or signals in order to achieve a result.
Interference An interruption or break in a signal or transmission from one device to another.
Iterative (design) Repeating process steps to continuously improve a work product.
Light- Emitting Diode (LED) A semiconductor diode that emits light when conducted current.
Microcontroller A small computer or a single integrated circuit containing a processor, memory, and programmable inputs and outputs.
Output The result of the operation of a system. Example - a computer output could be information or signals produce or delivered.
Physical Computing Building interactive physical systems using software and Hardware that can send and respond to the analog world.
Problem Decomposition To break a problem down into smaller pieces.
Processor A trip that processes information and data from input and delivers information or data as an output.
Program A set of instructions that a computer executes to achieve a particular objective.
