Poetry Terms (4)

TermDefinition
Lyric Expressing the writer's emotions, usually briefly and in stanzas or recognized forms
Meter The regular pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables that make up a line of poetry and gives rhythm and regularity to poetry
Onomatopoeia The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named and gives rhythm and regularity to poetry. "Bam, Crack, Womp!"
Poem Verse writing that is nearly always rhythmical, usually metaphorical, and often exhibits such formal elements as meter, rhyme and stanza structure.
Poet A person who writes poetry
