Active Immunity attained when the body is exposed to a pathogen and creates antibodies after exposure
Antibodies Y-shaped proteins created by B cells to bind to antigens on foreign substances and neutralize them
Antigen toxin on a foreign substance which activates an immune response
Barrier Defenses body's protection to help eliminate pathogens before entering the body; includes skin and sweat glands
B Lymphocytes cells responsible for antibody creation
Helper T-Lymphocytes type of T lymphocyte which directs immune response by activating B cells
Immune system body system which works with the lymphatic system to protect the body against foreign pathogens
Inflammation body response to attract immune cells to an injury or infection to fight off a pathogen or clear toxins
Interstitial fluid plasma which exits the body capillaries and diffuses into body tissues; contains oxygen, glucose and other vital nutrients
Killer T-Lymphocytes type of T lymphocyte which directly which directly binds to and kills foreign materials
Lymph fluid in the lymphatic system containing white blood cells, water, fats, proteins and other nutrients from tissue capillaries
Lymphatics vessels which receive lymph fluid from body tissues and deposit lymph to lymphatic trunks
Lymph Nodes small masses of lymph tissue responsible for filtering lymph and removing foreign pathogens captured by white blood cells
Lymphatic System body system responsible for filtering lymph fluid and creating immune responses to fight foreign pathogens
Lymphatic Trunks largest lymphatic vessels which include the right lymphatic duct and thoracic duct
Passive Immunity involves the introduction of antibodies through an external source
Pathogen any bacteria, virus or another organism which can cause disease
Vaccines preventative treatment which relies on memory lymphocytes
