research paper a document you can use to communicate the results of research findings.
parenthetical citations noting each source at the bottom of the page or at the end of the paper.
works cited refer to the bibliographic list of sources at the end of the papers
line spacing the amount of vertical space between lines of text in a paragraph.
paragraph spacing the amount of space above and below a paragraph.
double-space the amount of vertical space between each line of text and above and below paragraphs should be equal to one blank line.
header text and graphics that print at the top of each document.
footer text and graphics that print at the bottom of the every page.
right-aligned at the right margin
click and type to format and enter text, graphics, and other items.
shortcut keys a keyboard key combination, to format text as you type it.
horizontal ruler ruler displayed at the top edge of the document window just below the ribbon.
vertical ruler displays along the left edge of the word window.
ruler to indent one half inch from the left margin.
first-line indent to indent the first line of every paragraph.
first-line indent marker the top triangle at the 0" mark on the ruler.
left indent marker allows you to change the entire left margin.
auto-correct automatically corrects errors as you type them.
auto-correct options button allows you to undo a correction or change how word handles future automatic corrections of this type.
note reference mark to signal that an explanatory note exists either at the top of the page as a footnote or at the end of the document as an endnote.

note text can be any length and format.
automatic page breaks/soft page breaks when you type a document that exceeds one page,word will automatically insert this break.
background repagination automatic page break task.
works cited page a list of sources that are referenced directly in a research paper.
manual page break/hard page break you force into the document at a specific location.
bibliographic list the list of sources and alphabetize saving you time looking up style guidelines.
hanging indent the first line hangs to the left of the rest of the paragraph.
hanging indent marker the bottom triangle at the 0" mark of the ruler.
proofreading looking for grammatical errors and spelling errors.
drag-and-drop editing you can drag the selected item and drop it to the new location.
cutting removing the selected item from the document and then placing it on the clipboard.
clipboard temporary windows storage area.
pasting the process of copying an item from the clipboard into the document at the location of the insertion point.
paste options button a menu that allows you to change the format of the item that was moved.
