Literary terms

TermDefinition
Plot the series of events in the story.
Exposition The introduction of characters, backgrounds information, and setting.
Rising Action Are events leading up t the climax of the story.
Falling Action Are events directly following the climax of the story.
Climax The most interesting part oof the turning point in the story.
Resolution The conclusion of the story where all the loose ends are tied.
Conflict The problem or struggle in the story.
External Conflict is one that can be seen and involves a character struggle against an opposing force: another character or obstacle.
Internal Conflict Occurs within the character heart or mind.
Setting The when, where, and environment of the story
Chronological Order The way in which events occur in real time.
Foreshadow Hints or clue the author gives about what will happen in the story.
Flashback A scene or event from the past that interrupts the present time line.
Flash Forward A scene or event that jumps forward i time.
Mood How the author makes the reader feel.
Tone How the author feels.
