cross-cultural management | describes organizational behavior within countries and cultures |
parochialism | viewing the world solely through one's own eyes and perspective |
geographic dispersion | refers to the spread of global organization's operation over vast distances worldwide |
multiculturalism | people from many countries and/or cultures interact regularly |
culture | something shared by all or almost all members of a given social group, something older members of a group pass on the younger members, something that shapes behaviors or structures one's perception of the world |
culture orientations | a society reflects the complex interaction of values, attitudes, and behaviors displayed by its members |
values | which is explicitly or implicitly desirable to an individual or group and which influences the selection from available modes, means and end of action |

individualism or collectivism | individualism: take of oneself, commitment is conractual collectivism: loyalty to groups who protect them, commitment is moral |
doing or being | doing: standards believed to be external to particular individual and capable of being consistently applied to other situations and outcomes. being: believe that planning should allow for the extended time needed for true change to occur |
past, present, future | past: plans should be evaluated in terms of their fit with the customs, tradition and historic wisdom of society present: innovation and change future: justify innovation and change mostly in terms of future economic benefits |
