What can the preposition, à, can be translated to? The preposition à can be translated in various ways in English: to, in, at, on, for, with, made of, & by.
à + le = au
à + les = aux
à + la = à la
à + l' = à l'
How do I know when to use au, aux, à la, OR à l' in a French sentence? Use "au" for masculine singular places, "à la" for feminine places, "à l’" for words starting with a vowel or silent h, and "aux" for all plural nouns.
