Transmembrane A protein that spans across the entire cell membrane and helps move substances in and out of the cell
Ligand A molecule that binds to a receptor to trigger a response
Autonomic Nervous system Control involuntary actions- breathing, heartbeat, digestion, pupils, blood pressure
Somatic Nervous Sytem Controls voluntary actions- skeletal muscles
Endocrine Gland Release hormones directly into the bloodstream
Hypothalamus The control center of the brain that regulates hormones, temperature, thirst, hunger , and links the nervous system to the endocrine system
Pituitary Gland The "Master gland" that controls other endocrine glands
Thyroid Gland in the neck that regulates metabolism, energy, and body temperature
Pancreas Control over the bodies blood sugar- produce insulin and glucagon to regulate blood sugar
Lymph Clear fluid that carries waste, immune cells, and drains excess fluid from tissues
Inhaling Breathing air into the lungs, diaphragm moves down
Exhaling Breathing air out of the lungs, diaphragm moves up
Sternum Is the Middle bone of the chest that ribs connect to
small intestine Longest digestive organ where most nutrients absorption happens
