| Hypothalamus | Master regulator that releases hormones (e.g., GnRH, TRH, CRH) to control the anterior |
| Anterior Pituitary | Releases TSH, ACTH, LH, FSH, GH, and prolactin in response to hypothalamic releasing hormones. |
| What gland releases T3 and T4? | Thyroid Gland |
| Negative Feedback Loop | A regulatory mechanism where rising hormone levels inhibit further hormone release (e.g., T3/T4 suppress TSH). |
| What does the adrenal cortex produce? | Cortisol, aldosterone, and androgens. |
| What is the function of aldosterone? | Maintains sodium and water balance by acting on the kidneys; increases blood pressure |
| Insulin | A pancreatic hormone that lowers blood glucose by promoting cellular glucose uptake. |
| What happens in Type 1 Diabetes | Autoimmune destruction of beta cells leads to lack of insulin production. |
| Hyperthyroidism | Excess thyroid hormone causing increased metabolism, tachycardia, heat intolerance, and weight loss. |
