What is the course of the anterior belly of the digastric? the chin to hyoid bone (ABOD)
What is the function of the mylohyoid muscle? primary mandible depressor, elevates the hyoid/larynx
What is the course of the Mylohyoid muscle? The mylohyoid line to hyoid
What is the function of the geniohyoid? lowers the mandible or raise the hyoid/larynx
What is the course of the geniohyoid? the chin to hyoid bone (GH)
What is course of the lateral pterygoid muscle? the lateral portion of the lateral pterygoid plate and the infratemporal crest of the skull to the condyle
What is the function of the lateral pterygoid muscle? brings the condyle forward, moves mandible forward, helps with rotary movement
What is rotary movement? chewing in a circle (think of cows!)
What muscle is not a synergist or antagonist of the mylohyoid muscle? the lateral pterygoid
What are elevators? Jaw closers
How many layers does the masseter have? two layers
What is the course of the external masseter? the zygomatic arch to the angle of lateral surface of ramus
What is the course of the internal masseter? the zygomatic arch to upper half of ramus and lateral surface of coronoid process
What is the function of the masseter? jaw closer
What is the function of the temporalis? helps raise mandible
What is the course of the temporalis? temporal fossa to zygomatic arch, ramus, and coronoid process
Where is the temporalis? over the temporal bone
When/where can you feel the temporalis? on the side of your face while chewing
What do the pterygoid muscles help with? rotary movements
What is another name for the medial pterygoid? internal pterygoid
What is the course of the medial pterygoid? Medial surface of the lateral pterygoid into medial surface of the mangle of mandible
What does the medial pterygoid form? a sling with the masseter
What is the function of the medial pterygoid? elevates the haw and helps with rotary movement,
What is the primary muscle for elevating mandible during speech production? the medial pterygoid
