How does the level of sound change from outside the ear to inside the ear canal? It increases by a specific amount (in dB) based on the individual ear canal resonance
What is the first thing to do to measure ear canal resonance? Calibrate the sound level meter
What is the second thing to do to measure ear canal resonance? play a sound through a speaker at a consistent dB level
What is the third thing to do to measure ear canal resonance? measure the sound outside and inside the ear canal
What is sound localization? the ability to determine the location of a sound

How does the brain decide where a sound is coming from? It analyzes which ear is hearing higher frequencies
Which level of frequency is harder to localize? low frequency sounds
What is the Head Shadow Effect? The reduction of high frequency sounds as it moves from one side of the head to the other
What is a wavelength? the physical distance for one cycle
What happens to sounds that are larger than the head? they are not impacted by the head shadow effect, meaning they are not reduced
What happens to sounds that are smaller than the head? they are impacted by the head shadow effect, meaning they are reduced
Where is the middle ear located? in the tympanic cavity in the temporal bone
What is another name for the tympanic cavity? the tympanum
