How does lipase contribute to digestion? Lipase is an enzyme that breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol, which can be absorbed by the intestines.
What are proteases, and where are they active? Proteases are enzymes that break down proteins into amino acids. They are mainly active in the stomach and small intestine.
What is the function of the skin in the human body? The skin acts as a barrier protecting the body from environmental hazards, helps regulate temperature, and allows for sensory perception.
What are the three main layers of the skin? The three main layers of the skin are the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layer (hypodermis).
How does the skeletal system aid in human mobility? The skeletal system provides structure and support, allowing for movement through its joints, which act as levers for muscles.
How does the human skeleton differ from that of other animals in terms of upright posture? The human skeleton has a unique structure, including a wider pelvis and a curved spine, that supports an upright, bipedal posture, enabling walking on two legs.
How does the anatomy of the skeletal system relate to other body systems? The skeletal system works with the muscular system to facilitate movement, with the nervous system coordinating muscle contractions. It also protects vital organs (e.g., the heart and lungs) and stores minerals like calcium.
