Cells

QuestionAnswer
What is the main job of a cell? To carry out all life functions , getting energy, growing, and making new cells.
What part of the cell controls all activities? The nucleus... it acts like the “brain” of the cell.
What is the mitochondria’s function? It makes energy for the cell (the powerhouse)
What does the cell membrane do? It controls what enters and leaves the cell.
What is cytoplasm? The jelly-like fluid inside a cell that holds organelles in place.
What is cell growth? The process of a cell increasing in size and making more organelles.
What is the cell cycle? The series of stages a cell goes through to grow and divide.
What is mitosis? Cell division that produces two identical cells for growth and repair.
What happens during interphase? The cell grows, copies DNA, and prepares to divide.
What is differentiation? When cells become specialized to do specific jobs (like muscle or nerve cells).
Why do cells need to communicate? To coordinate activities and maintain balance in the body.
What are chemical signals? Messages sent between cells using molecules like hormones or neurotransmitters.
What are receptors? Proteins on the cell surface that receive chemical messages.
What is a signaling pathway? A series of steps where a signal travels inside the cell to cause a response.
How do nerve cells communicate? They send electrical and chemical signals across synapses.
What is homeostasis? The balance of internal conditions in the body and within cells.
How do cells get nutrients? Through the cell membrane by diffusion or active transport.
