Midterm Review

TermDefinition
Anatomy Study of body structures and their relationships.
Physiology Study of how body parts function and work together.
Cell Membrane Controls what enters and leaves the cell; helps maintain homeostasis.
Mitochondria “Powerhouse” of the cell; produces ATP energy.
Epithelial Tissue Covers body surfaces and lines organs, cavities, and glands.
Connective Tissue Supports, protects, and binds other tissues; includes bone, blood, fat, and cartilage.
Epidermis Outermost layer of skin made of epithelial tissue; provides protection.
Dermis Thick inner layer of skin containing blood vessels, glands, nerves, and hair follicles.
Osteoblast Bone-forming cell that builds new bone tissue.
Osteoclast Bone-breaking cell that breaks down bone tissue for remodeling.
