Network Standard Organizatios and abbriviations

Standard Documented agreements containing technicalspecificatons or other precise criteria that stipulate how a particular product or service should be designed or performed.
ANSI American National Standards Institute composed of more than 1000 representatives fomr industry and government who together determine standardsfor the elecronics industry, also handles international standards.
EIA Electronic Industries Allicance- A trade organization composed of representatives from electrical manufacturing firms across the United States. Helps write ANSI Standards
TIA Telecommunication Industry Accociates sets standars for information technology, wireless,satelitte,fiber optics and telephone equipment.
IEEE Institue of electrical and Electronics Engineers, is an international society composed of engineering professionals. Promote development and eduication in computer science and set standards for electronics and computer industries.
ISO International Organization for Standardization, sets international technology standards to facilitate globable exchange of information. Set the standard for the OSI model.
ITU International Telecommunication UnionUnited Nations agency to set standards for International communication including radio and TV frequencies, satellite, telephone specefacations and networking infrastructure.
ISOC Internet Society. sets technical standards for the internet.
IANA Internet Assigned Numbers Authority keeps records of available and reserved IP addresses and determines how addresses are doled out.
ICANN took over the addressing and DNS of the internet from IANA but IANA still continues system maintenance.
