| annotation | A NOTE of explanation, a dimension, or a comment added to text, diagrams, or models. |
| dimension | A measure in ONE DIRECTION. |
| isometric sketch | A sketch in which an object’s parallel edges are drawn with parallel lines, typically at 30-degree angles to the HORIZONTAL baseline. There are no vanishing points, and three sides of the object can be seen simultaneously. |
| Multiview sketch | A sketch, typically including the TOP, FRONT, and RIGHT primary views of an object that are drawn using orthographic projections. An isometric sketch of the object is often included. |
| orthographic projection | A method of REPRESENTING views of a three-dimensional object by drawing the visible faces in each view on a two-dimensional plane. |
| three-dimensional | Having the dimensions of HEIGHT, DEEPTH, and WIDTH |
| thumbnail sketch | A preliminary visual of an idea for a design. Most THUMBNAIL sketches are not full size and have little detail. Their purpose is to help quickly explore possible alternative designs. |
| accurate | CLOSE to the TRUE value. |
| dimensioning | Adding dimensions to a sketch, using arrows to specify the extent of the DIMENSION. |
| hatch mark | A form of math notation or a MARK to indicate a unit of measurement. It is also known as a hash mark or tick mark. |
| metric system | An internationally recognized (decimal) measuring system that is based on the meter, liter, gram, and Celsius as units of length, volume, mass, and temperature. The METRIC SYSTEM is also known as the SI system |
| U.S. Customary Standard system | A British-based measuring SYSTEM that uses units such as inch, yard, mile, gallon, and Fahrenheit. |
